Original artwork by Paul Wright
Artist Paul Wright is a British painter, born in Leicester in 1973. Paul studied at Falmouth College of Art obtaining a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Illustration in 1995. Although Paul began a promising career as an illustrator, he soon moved on to concentrate on oil painting. Paul developed a unique style comprised of broad and expressive brushstrokes, while still making evident his superior draughtsmanship and colour sense. Breaking into the 2006 National Gallery BP Portrait award, Paul went on to produce sell out exhibitions for London galleries along with a growing waiting list for private commissions. Paul’s style has become very recognisable due to his use of bold palette and active surfaces.
Paul Wright – contemporary artist
After training as an Illustrator, I have spent the last 15 years developing a painterly language through which I seek to capture a vitality beyond the establishment of a mere ‘likeness’ to the subject. Whilst I appreciate the importance of the individual being recognisable, the subjects are glimpsed rather than exposed, their inner selves hinted at but ultimately inscrutable”.

After a couple of years working with Matty, we both wanted to spread our wings and set off to work abroad. Matty took the initiative first. He applied for a job in Bermuda and also to be a long haul steward with British Airways. His dilemma came when he was accepted for both jobs. It was back in the 1970’s when I really wanted to be an artist and enjoyed painting landscape watercolours and portraits. However I opted for silversmithing as it was on our school curriculum, our school was in Sheffield, where back then it was well known for its silversmithing industry. About Rutland Antiques and Art Centre
We are located in the beautiful market town of Uppingham, in rural Rutland – the smallest county in England, near to Leicester, Stamford and Market Harborough, and of course the spectacular Rutland Water.
Mark and Diane Evans
We carry a wide variety of antique and vintage pieces. The more quirky the better for us. Our latest venture is rare and unseen photographs from the Mark Hayward Rock Memorabilia Collection, and we have some wonderful framed images of David Bowie, Queen and the Beatles to name a few.
We are also very proud to represent the incredibly talented contemporary artist, Paul Wright.
